Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to Schiller Park District 81! We are excited to welcome your child to Kindergarten at Kennedy Elementary School and have packed this handout with lots of information that you will need to know about the process for entering Kindergarten this Fall.
Step 1: Learn More!
You will want to learn more about Kindergarten in District 81.
Kennedy School hosted a Kindergarten Information Night in March. If you were unable to attend, the presentation can be found here.
Step 2: Register Online
The first step in the process is to pre-register your child for Kindergarten by completing the registration forms online. The registration window for the 2019-2020 school year is currently open. Online registration can be found here.
You can choose to pay the $75 Kindergarten registration fee online or in person (cash or check) at the time of online registration, or in person during the residency verification.
Step 3: Prove Residency
In order to finish the registration process for your child, we need to verify that you reside within District 81 boundaries. To do this, you will need to bring the following documents in person to one of the on-site registration/residency verification dates:

Step 4: Kindergarten Screening (if NEW to District 81)
Once registered, you will need to sign up for a Kindergarten screening appointment (if you are new to District 81. Currently enrolled PreK students do not need to sign up for a screening). Please call the school office at (847) 671-0250 to sign your child up for a Kindergarten Screening appointment.
The screening dates are: May 22 and 23, 2019. At the screening, your child will meet with the Kindergarten teachers who will assess your child’s skills in the areas of academics (early literacy & early numeracy), fine and gross motor skills and speech/language and social interaction. The information from this screening will be used to help place your child in an appropriate classroom. When your child is being screened, you will be able to tell our team more about your child and notify us of any concerns you might have through the completion of a survey.
Step 5: Bring In Your Child’s Medical Information
There are health requirements that need to on file at the school Nurse’s Office no later than October 15th, 2019 (medical exclusion day).
- Physical & Immunizations

- Eye Exam
The school nurse at Kennedy Elementary School is Ms. Anna Wrobel and you can call or send her an email with any questions you might have about health records. She can be reached at (847) 671-0250 Ext. 3111.
If you have any questions about Kindergarten Registration, please contact the Kennedy School office & ask to speak with Principal Ms. Melissa Kartsimas or Assistant Principals (Ms. Donna Maglione or Ms. Sara Grulke) or send an email.
We are excited to partner with you as your child’s educational journey begins in Kindergarten!
