Dear Parents,

As an administrative team, we would like to inform you about our efforts in regards to preparing for the upcoming PARCC assessment that will be administered in the 2014-2015 school year.

The PARCC assessment will be given in two parts. The first part, the Performance Based Assessment, will begin for our district on Monday, March 9. The Performance Based portion will include test items that will require your child to read and analyze text, as well as complete multi-step math problems and will be taken on computers. The second part of the PARCC assessment, the End of Year Assessment, will begin for our district in April. This portion of the assessment will look more like the ISAT test has in the past, however will be taken on computers.

For the past three years, we have made thoughtful adjustments to our curriculum by aligning to the Common Core Standards while still maintaining differentiated instruction to address the needs of all of our students. Our objective has focused on making our students more college and career ready. We have approached the teaching of reading, writing, and analysis with focus and evidence-based. Our students are becoming stronger critical thinkers, more purposeful readers and writers, and thoughtful problem solvers. To emphasize mathematics in this approach, we have addressed conceptual development through understanding of processes and their relationships.

Our district staff have been working hard to prepare ourselves and our students for PARCC. You can help us by encouraging your child to do their best, but not to become anxious or worried about the assessments. Plenty of sleep and a good breakfast will also help your child to do their best. Please note that every student is required to have a set of earbuds for the PARCC test. Please ensure that your child has a pair for testing.  If they do not have a set of earbuds, a set can be purchased from the school office.

If you should have any questions regarding the PARCC process, expectations and assessment, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
